"Over a decade ago, I applied for a Technology Manager position in the city of Detroit. The interview went well until the end, when I was told that they wanted a more seasoned manager to take on the role. I felt very discouraged because I wasn’t able to break this barrier in my work. I really wanted a leadership position. Frustrated, I began to pray for God's help. He showed me that while desiring a position of leadership was a good thing, the timing wasn't right. I needed to grow and learn some things before I was ready. Along the way, I continued to pray for God's purpose in all of this and what I eventually discovered was that all of my passion was centered around a desire to help others find purpose in their lives. So now I live to bring joy and purpose into others' lives and as a result, I experience joy and purpose in mine. Leadership isn't a position. It's influence. If you can influence others, you are leading them, and there is always purpose in that."
